Welcome to Bishops Prep!
Dear Parents
A very special welcome to your family as your son enters Grade 3. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if any of this is not clear.
The transition to Grade 3 does involve a number of changes: uniform, competitive sport, length of day etc. We try to anticipate all these changes and inform you in advance but please feel free to ask the teachers for assistance if required.

It is imperative that this is thoroughly read and important dates or events noted. This supersedes the calendar and all changes from that will be highlighted in the Update. News and general information updates will also be included.
Please note, a cocktail party for all Grade 3 parents will be held in the grounds of the Headmaster’s house on Thursday, 23 January 2025 at 18h30.
We look forward to an exciting year with your son.
May you have a Blessed Christmas and a Peaceful and Happy 2025!

STATIONERY
Western Cape School Suppliers will deliver all stationery to school. Payment for your son’s stationery will be debited to your school account. There is no need for you to buy your son anything at the start of the year.
Books will be handed out in class. We make book covers in class and the teachers will cover the books with reusable covers in the first few weeks of the term.
Stationery will be sent home in the first week of school. Please mark all the stationery (even pencils, pencil crayons and koki’s) and return to the class teacher. Stationery is kept at school.
HOMEWORK Books
Homework books are the most essential part of the communication between you and ourselves. Please check and sign them every day. These will be handed out in the first week of the term.

MUSIC
Bishops Prep Music Department offers tuition on a wide range of musical instruments. We have a staff complement of over 20 experienced part-time music teachers, alongside 3 full-time educators: namely Mrs Nikki Fyvie, Mrs Tina Sheard and Ms Sandee Clapperton. Mrs Kashiefa Kerven is our Music Department Administrator.
During the Grade 3 year, your son will attend two Class Music lessons per week. The first lesson will involve singing, movement and general music education. During the second lesson, your son will be introduced to some of the instruments on offer at the Prep. These include strings, brass and woodwind instruments.
Individual tuition is offered on the following instruments: piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, harp, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, drumkit, percussion, voice, trombone, euphonium, trumpet, cornet and tuba.
Grade 3 boys will be auditioned in the Fourth Term for inclusion in the Choir from Grade 4. The Grade 3 year is crucial for gauging talent to set the boys up for their instrumental journey ahead.
In addition to the Choir, the Prep boasts a very successful ensemble programme: Junior and Senior String Ensembles, Brass Ensemble, Wind Band, Marimba Band, Guitar Ensemble and the Grade 7 Vocal Ensemble.
Bishops Prep is very proud of the institution that is our Wednesday Assembly Concerts. These concerts take place on most Wednesday mornings of the school calendar, affording Bishops music pupils the opportunity to perform for their peers, teachers and invited parents.
Should you have any queries pertaining to your son’s music at Bishops, please feel free to contact us at prepmusic@bishops.org.za.
